The hospital has many women who began as volunteers
immediately after the hospital opened. In 1965, the group formally
organized and has been active ever since.
From 9-10 women, the membership is now about 35. The
Gift Shop is operated by the Auxiliary. It is a major source of income
for the Auxiliary, along with sales of quilts, arts, crafts, and sodas.
Names of the auxilians may be seen
on a plaque on the wall outside the Gift Shop. About 8,000 volunteer
hours have been recorded yearly. Contributions of monetary support and
purchases of capital equipment have ranged from $12 to over $20,000.
.
The Auxilians certainly keep the needs
of the hospital and the concerns for good health at the center of their
activities. Auxilians may be found at work on
Tuesday mornings in the Dr. Slaughter Memorial Building or in the gift shop
daily. Visitors are always welcome. For more information, or to
join the Auxiliary, please call the President - Peggy Goldsberry,
